If someone were to tell you that they could clean your house by using a salt lamp, you would probably think that they were crazy, however should you decide to give them a chance to explain themselves, you’d discover how clean your home's air can be with the help of a Himalayan salt crystal lamp.

What is a salt lamp anyway? With numerous lamps in the house, do you still need more illumination? From the look and appearance of a salt lamp you might wonder how a chunk of salt would affect your home decor. However, a salt lamp may be the most important lamp you can have in the home. Why? Because this lamp is recognized for its ability to clean the air.

A salt lamp is a natural chunk of salt rock taken from the mines found in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains that have been in existence for millions of years. A piece of salt rock from these mines also contains minerals from the earth; minerals that effectively help ionize the air.

The chunk of salt is shaped, mounted to a wooden base, and drilled to form a hole that can accommodate a candle or a light bulb. They are made in different sizes and shapes to provide variety for the user. Heat from the bulb or flame makes the salt lamp emit ions that are negatively charged. These negative ions then help produce cleaner air.

How can a salt lamp actually do this? Air is composed of many elements. These elements include ions, which are pollutants such as dust particles that are not easily seen by the naked eye. Other irritants include: dust, smoke, and mold spores, pollen from grass, trees, weeds, and animal dander. These pollutants are positively charged ions. The action of the salt lamp is to neutralize these positive ions by emitting negative ions. When this happens, the neutralized substances get heavy and ultimately fall, eliminating them from the normal air circulation, thereby eliminating pollution.

Electronic devices used at home also produce electro-smog, which can affect the concentration as well as the breathing of individuals. Ironically, many mechanical air ionizers that are meant to clean the air actually produce pollution of their own. With a salt lamp, this electro-smog is significantly repressed; in fact, the salt lamp helps eliminate electro-smog of other devices in the home such as personal computers.

So salt lamps not only complement the natural look of your home but they also encourage health and wellness through a clean environment that enhances the health of people and pets.

The air we breathe is filled with millions of particles, molecules, and even living organisms. But the air is also filled with toxins and particles that make healthy breathing much more difficult. Air ionizers are fast becoming a trend in the field of health care and environmental awareness.

A salt lamp is a natural organic air ionizer and like all ionizers it cleans the air and eradicates those substances that are not healthy to the body. Since the body needs air constantly, the air should be cleaned constantly. When used properly ionizers have also been shown to treat several symptoms of asthma, hay fever, depression, fatigue, and other disorders. Using an air ionizer gives the air a chance to renew itself through cleansing and humidification.

The public is becoming aware of the benefits attained from an ionizer such as a salt crystal lamp and realize that by using an air ionizer they can help improve their home environment. In short a Himalayan salt crystal lamp helps promote the health and wellness of all who bask in its warm soothing glow.
